Here is an AI Treasure for you if you like delicious food and an AI battle over pride of best recipe.

The other day, while pleasure-reading “Gnomon”, Nick Harkaway’s challenging novel about a future high-surveillance society, I puzzled over his mention of Kolokitho keftedes. So, I looked them up on OpenAI’s ChatGPT where I learned about their high likelihood for yumminess. I immediately prompted the AI for a precise step-by-step recipe to make some. (The word “precise” did a lot of work in ChatGPT’s response, particularly in weights and measures.)

But then I wondered- would Google’s Gemini tweak ChatGPT’s Kolokitho keftedes recipe? ChatGPT said it expected that yes, Gemini almost certainly would tweak it, but in a way that would increase failure risk.

Gee, does ChatGPT have pride of ownership? So, I replied to it, let’s just ask Gemini, shall we.

Gemini was thrilled when I logged into it: “It’s not every day”, it responded, “that I get to engage in a cross-platform culinary debate! I’d love to see if ChatGPT gets even more protective of its recipe”.

Paid subscribers enjoy the full true-story of ChatGPT and Gemini’s Great Fritter Feud as well as their (divergent) ideas about what goes into a great recipe for a successful dinner.
